NATIONAL SEMINAR ON ISLAMIC ECONOMICS

           The Chair for Islamic studies & Research, University of Calicut and Institute for Islamic Economics and Finance Research (IIEFR) are jointly organizing a two day National Seminar entitled “Debt & Interest Crisis in Economic Development”, on 14th and 15th February 2018. The Seminar aims at analyzing the fluctuations in economic conditions, nature and causes of economic crisis, debt market, variants and  significance of interest,  speculative factors, stability and various aspects of economic development in Islamic Economics perspective. It also aims to look at the role and significance of philosophy of Islamic economics and finance in modern times in terms of equity, justice and social wellbeing. This seminar also creates a forum for the exchange of ideas and information on development of the study of Islamic economics and finance among the academic community. We expect teachers, research scholars, students, economists, social workers and practitioners in the seminar as resource persons, paper presenters, discussants and participants.

Papers are invited to present in the seminar.

 Original research papers are invited from Academicians, Research Scholars and PG Students in the following and related research areas:

1.       Economic development, stability and sustainability

2.       Debt market and its significance

3.       Interest- meaning, measures and impact

4.       Economic crisis- meaning, causes and impacts

5.       Social welfare, Equity, justice and redistribution

6.       Consequences of interest on economic development

7.       Islamic alternatives to face the interest and debt crises

8.       Impacts  of debt and interest on third world economies

9.       Debt, interest and capitalist economic development

10.   Role of Brittan wood twins in debt crisis and economic development

11.   Islamic finance models for infrastructure development

12.   Alternative models from  various countries like turkey

13.   Is Islamic finance a solution for modern crisis etc. and related topics

 

Guidelines for paper presentation as follows.

1. The abstract must be a maximum of 250 words including title page, discipline, and sub theme of the paper, name of the author, affiliation and complete address of the author including phone/Mobile Number, e-mail address.

2. The paper should be in Times New Roman, font size 12 in 1.5 line space, with margin of 1 inch on all sides.

3. The paper can be on any of the sub-themes and limited to a minimum of 2500 words and maximum of about 4000 words.

 4. There will be a maximum time limit of 5-10 minutes for presenting the paper.

5. The paper should be the author’s original work and should not have been published earlier in any other seminar / journal. The paper should accompany  a declaration from the author to the above effect.

6.  All Authors/ Co-authors of papers selected for presentation will be given a certificate.  Papers can be presented either in ‘person’ or in ‘absentia’ mode.

7. The presentation should be done using power point slides (PPT).  LCD projector will be provided.

9) Last date to receive abstract is 15th January 2018; full paper on 30th January 2018

10) Inform  the position of paper writing by 5th February

11) No TA/DA/lodging facility is offered to the paper presenters

10. Detailed program schedule will be mailed after the acceptance of the final paper.
